27 Metro grocery stores reopening today for first time in over a month More than two dozen Metro stores that were shut down due to a workers’ strike are reopening on Tuesday for the first time in over a month.Union members approved a tentative agreement on Thursday, putting an end to the job action. Despite this, the company said the shuttered locations were not be ready to reopen last week since they were in need of major restocking.More than 3,700 workers at 27 locations were off the job since July 29. The closed stores were located almost entirely in the GTA (full list below).A new five-year deal means workers will get an immediate raise of $1.50 an hour, with full-time and senior part-time workers getting an additional $0.50 raise in January, bringing their total pay increase over the coming months to $2 an hour.The workers, represented by Unifor, voted to ratify the deal just two days after Metro was granted a temporary injunction restricting secondary picket lines that blocked fresh product deliveries to its stores.A list of Metro locations...

Man dead, woman critical after being pulled from Lake Michigan CHICAGO — One person is dead and a second person is in critical condition after being pulled from Lake Michigan in two separate incidents.Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a person in the water after a witness observed multiple people jumping into the lake on the 5000 block of South Lake Shore Drive. A 27-year-old man did not resurface. The Chicago Police Department Marine Unit responded and recovered the man who was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. He was later prononced dead.Area One detectives are investigating. ‘It seemed to be the only choice’: Suspect allegedly leaves note inside victim’s car after violent attack Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said witnesses saw a woman walking with a man near Montrose Harbor and then heard cries for help a short time later.Rescue teams were able to pull her out of the water. 4 shot on Chicago's West Side CHICAGO — Four people were shot following an argument on the city's West Side.The shooting happened around 1:36 a.m. Tuesday on the 4700 block of West Gladys. Police said a group of people were in a verbal altercation with another group when an unknown person fired shots in the direction of the group.A 19-year-old woman was shot in the right buttocks and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. A 20-year-old man was shot in the left arm and groin area, and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. Man dead, woman critical after being pulled from Lake Michigan An 18-year-old man was shot in the right shin and transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Another 18-year-old man sustained a graze wound to the left shoulder and refused medical attention.No one is in custody. Area Four Detectives are investigating.
