ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Elliott Fry will get the first chance to serve as Brandon McManus’ successor in Denver after the Broncos signed the third-year kicker who has appeared in three career NFL games games with the Falcons, Chiefs and Bengals.The Broncos cut ties with McManus on May 23, and coach Sean Payton indicated last week that money was a driver in the decision. They saved $3.75 million in salary and $2.5 million in cap space by dumping McManus.The last holdover from the Broncos’ Super Bowl 50-winning team, McManus took out a full-page advertisement in the Denver Post last weekend thanking “Broncos Country” and listing more than 150 members of the organization. (AP) — Five juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the beating of three Marines by a large group of youths on a Southern California pier, authorities said.The assault happened shortly before 10 p.m. Friday in the city of San Clemente near Camp Pendleton, a Marine Corps base. The state is launching an investigation into the healthcare company Compass Medical after patient complaints that the company with several locations in Massachusetts has suddenly shut down, a spokesperson for the state Executive Office of Health and Human Services said on Wednesday. Dozens of residents were left without a place to stay after a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in Brighton on Wednesday morning, forcing the MBTA to suspend nearby Green Line service in the process.The Boston Fire Department said its companies were called to an apartment building in the 1900 block of Commonwealth Ave. around 9:40 a.m. On scene, officials said firefighters saw flames on the third and sixth floor of the building. A jury found a security guard not guilty of assault in connection with an incident inside the Primark in Downtown Crossing. In 2019, 36-year-old Mohammed Khan of Cambridge was accused of choking and punching an 11-year-old who later admitted to shoplifting about $175 worth of merchandise. A jury found him not guilty of assault and battery and a civil rights violation on Tuesday.Khan and his employer, Securitas Security Services USA Inc., of Parsippany, New Jersey, were both indicted and charged in late 2019 with assault and battery on a child under 14 and one count each of civil rights violations, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.Khan pled not guilty while his company agreed in 2021 to implement changes following the indictment.
